Uses & Therapeutic Effects

Uses & Therapeutic Effects

Uses

  • Used in the treatment of non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC).
  • Used in combination with androgen-deprivation therapy for metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC).
  • Helps control prostate cancer by reducing the activity of androgen signaling that can promote cancer-cell growth.

Therapeutic Effects

  • Blocks androgen receptor signaling in prostate cancer cells.
  • Helps slow androgen-dependent cancer-cell growth and progression.
  • May delay disease progression in appropriately selected patients.
  • Its therapeutic benefit depends on the type and stage of prostate cancer and the patient's overall treatment plan.

Important: Apalutamide is an anticancer prescription medicine, not a general treatment for urinary symptoms or benign prostate enlargement.

Ingredients & Composition

Active Ingredient:
Apalutamide — 60 mg per film-coated tablet

Dosage Form:
Film-coated oral tablet.

Pharmacological Class:
Androgen receptor inhibitor / antiandrogen.

Inactive Ingredients:
The exact excipient composition can vary according to the manufacturer and formulation. For a specific Prostaxen product, use the ingredients listed on the approved product packaging or official product information rather than assuming they are identical to another apalutamide brand. An FDA-approved apalutamide 60 mg formulation, for example, contains excipients including microcrystalline cellulose, silicified microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, colloidal anhydrous silica and magnesium stearate, with additional coating ingredients.

Dosage & Administration

Standard Adult Dose:
The recommended apalutamide dose is 240 mg orally once daily, equivalent to four 60 mg tablets once daily. It is generally used together with a GnRH analogue or after bilateral orchiectomy, according to the treatment plan.

How to Take

  • Take the prescribed dose once daily, preferably at approximately the same time each day.
  • Tablets may be taken with or without food.
  • Swallow tablets whole; do not crush or split them unless an approved alternative administration method is specifically provided.
  • Continue treatment exactly as directed by the treating oncologist.

Missed Dose

  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible on the same day.
  • If the entire day's dose is missed, take the regular dose the following day.
  • Do not take extra tablets to compensate for a missed dose.

Dose Modification
If significant or intolerable adverse reactions occur, the treating physician may temporarily interrupt treatment or reduce the dose. Approved dose-reduction options include 180 mg or 120 mg once daily, depending on the clinical situation.
